On the day of Plastic Overshoot Day in Italy — the date when the country exceeds its sustainable plastic budget, meaning the point at which national consumption of plastic waste surpasses the capacity to safely and effectively manage it — Pettenon Cosmetics S.p.A. Società Benefit announces its collaboration with Ogyre, the Italian startup dedicated to ocean protection through the global Fishing for Litter platform.
A choice that is both symbolic and concrete: Pettenon Cosmetics reaffirms its ethical vision of business, combining innovation, quality, and environmental responsibility. Through this project, the company further extends its commitment to sustainability, also encompassing the protection of biodiversity and the fight against plastic pollution.
The partnership with Ogyre foresees, over a 24-month period, the collection of more than 88,000 kilograms of marine waste, equivalent to 5% of Pettenon Cosmetics’ total Plastic Footprint.
Waste is recovered directly by fishermen during, or in addition to, their normal fishing activities, brought ashore, recorded, and sent for recycling or sustainable disposal, in compliance with local regulations. Every stage of the project is monitored and tracked via blockchain technology, ensuring full transparency and allowing real-time measurement of environmental impact.
“Plastic Overshoot Day reminds us how urgent it is to take action every day for a more sustainable future,” says Luigi Ambrosini, CEO of Pettenon Cosmetics.
“For us, sustainability is not a goal to achieve, but a daily commitment that guides our choices. Through our partnership with Ogyre, we turn this commitment into tangible actions, contributing to the protection of the oceans and the preservation of an ecosystem essential for life on our planet. This project embodies our vision of responsible beauty that cares for the planet, aligned with the values of innovation, transparency, and positive impact that define us as a Società Benefit.”
The Fishing for Litter project promoted by Ogyre actively involves fishermen and coastal communities in the collection of marine waste intercepted during or in addition to normal fishing activities, compensating them for their efforts. At the same time, part of the resources is allocated to initiatives preventing plastic leakage, including actions to reduce waste dispersion, strengthen plastic management and recycling infrastructure, and empower local communities in the most affected areas. This virtuous model combines circular economy, social inclusion, and environmental protection.
Through a dedicated landing page, the project’s progress can be tracked and visualized in real time, giving Pettenon Cosmetics’ employees, customers, and partners the opportunity to monitor results and take part — even symbolically — in a collective path of environmental responsibility.
The partnership with Ogyre thus represents another step in Pettenon Cosmetics’ journey to integrate sustainability more deeply into its business model. On Plastic Overshoot Day, this commitment takes on even greater significance: it is the mark of a company that chooses to turn awareness into action and make beauty a vehicle for environmental and social regeneration.
